Hi there! Some cute stuff for you today...

Mainit Hellman of [Baustein] sent me his latest release: the Chapman set (named after SySy Chapman). I have always loved this sort of mudroom/entry hallway furniture - perfect for hanging coats, storing hats and scarves and umbrellas, a great little drop off point when you first walk in the door. If I should ever have a mudroom in RL (which would be AWESOME), it's guaranteed that I will have a set up like this.

I love the wicker baskets and the shopping bag - nice touches to make it feel 'lived in', which I really like. As always, Mainit has done an awesome job with his shadows - great depth on these pieces. For my personal taste, I would like these shadows to be a bit softer...but either way, it's an excellent job of adding shadows. (Just to be clear - the shadows you see are included with the furniture - I do not have SL shadows enabled.)

The empty frames are a nice decorative touch, gives a little bit of glam to the set up.

Great job, once again, by Mainit - and only 19 prims, btw. Be sure to stop by [Baustein] to see it for yourself! [SLurl]

More cuteness, and quite exciting, at that -- Saeya Nyanda of Kyoot has recently opened Kyoot Home! Hopefully, dear readers, you all know Kyoot for their clothing and hair (awesome), and I am very excited to have a Kyoot home store available now! It's a small inventory at the moment, but definitely worth checking out. Be sure to join the SOM group, too - the group gift is adorable! You can see that in the first pic, below...

...along with a sampling of what you'll find at Kyoot Home. Be sure to get over there to check it out, and I look forward to seeing what else Saeya comes up with!

Hi there! I am currently busy with these things:

These are both amazing and awesome events, so make sure you check them both out!

Now, because of these awesome events, I am not acting the part of faithful blogger like I should. I do have stuff to share with you, and I'm gonna - it's just gonna be in a quick whirlwind of vendor pics and very few words. How's that sound? Alright? Let's go!

First, a new release from La'Licious Designs - super cute dollhouse bedroom!

La'Licious Designs [SLurl]

Next, we have a new shop - Growbox! Designed by Makaio Stygian and featured at Trompe Loeil Prefabs, a great new place for really gorgeous sculpted flowers.

Growbox [SLurl]

Cheap Cheap - another new shop with a precious logo and an enticing name. ;) I haven't had a chance to check out the shop yet; designer Flanelle Bebb sent me a folder of pics and things to play with, and it looks like cute, shabby chic, and sometimes silly stuff! That's my kind of stuff!

Cheap Cheap [SLurl]

And finally, the team at NOTsoBAD has been super busy! They've just released a few new series of beds - gorgeous, of course, as is everything from NOTsoBAD - and also packed with tons of really fun animations! They include the naughty stuff ;) but also lots of casual, fun, hanging out animations. You can see the menu in the first set of pics, below:

There are also a bunch of new, modern, low prim lighting options...AND, if you're in the SOM group, then you already know about the group gift, the  Nottam skybox! If you're not in the SOM -- well, you should be. So, go join. :)

NOTsoBAD [SLurl]

Talk to you soon! Now, go shop!

I'll be honest - when designer Xadie Katscher sent me a review folder for Forbidden Thorn, the shop name led me to expect dark, gothy furniture - lots of black and red mixed in with, well, thorny roses. Not so! Forbidden Thorn is a very welcoming, warm, open-concept shop, and Xadie's designs are what I would call "soft modern" with fun and creative twists. It's a relatively small stock at this point (a little birdy told me bedrooms will be coming in July ;) ) but definitely worth a look!

Lynn set: a nice, minimalist seating set - I love how Xadie incorporated the circles and the curved arm - it's a great job of breaking up the squareness of the pieces. My absolute favorite detail, though, is the windchimes in the corner of the sofa. :) How awesome is that!? A great, unexpected touch!

lynn set

Fae set: I truly don't think I have ever seen a set like this in all of SL...and I think it's awesome. It reminds me -- in a good way -- of a hamster village, where you can add the tubes and whatnot to create a whole little playground. This looks like you could keep adding pieces to create a mega seating area and no one would ever have to sit on the floor! Utopia! Anyway...this is really fun, and I can just imagine all the photo ops created with this piece and your closest 8 friends.

fae set

Emmala set: I adore the curves on the arms of the chairs and sofa - the curves plus the plush look of the fabric are a great juxtaposition (5 points) to the hard angles and metal of the table and lamp. What's even more awesome is that the fabric detail has skulls. :) I LOVE skull fabrics -- and THAT is something I'd have expected from a shop called Forbidden Thorn. ;) You can just barely see a tiny little pink skull in the inset pic, a closeup on one of the lamp globes. Love it!

emmala set both

Avery set: This set reminds me of Auntie Mame - the furniture she has toward the end of the movie, when she's trying to scare off her nephew's girlfriend...if you've never seen Auntie Mame (the one with Rosalind Russell) then you must!! Anyway...that furniture was very modern, and actually operated by strings, rather than hanging from strings...but it was awesome just like this set...so there's my connection. :)

avery set

Avery Lamp, Cold Lamp: I had to pick these bad boys up for myself. I love the Cold Lamp's industrial style, and the Avery lamp is just fun - great for indoors, and I could also see it outside on a nice patio complete with cushions and a firepit. Both great pieces!

lamps both

When you visit Forbidden Thorn, you'll see that all the sets include multiple fabric options (3 styles for each set, I believe), and you can also choose to purchase either Transfer copies OR Copy copies, which I think is very shopper-friendly. For my lamps, above, I bought the copy versions -- so don't be surprised when the Cold Lamp starts popping up all over my club and sim. ;) Also, be sure to get over to the shop soon -- for the month of June, Xadie has her store gift cards on sale for 50%!! Her prices are very reasonable already -- tack on 50% discount and you're talking about bargains!!

Balthasar Bookmite of Lofty Lighting was kind enough to drop a review folder on me, so I took a look today. Balt specializes in loft lighting -- very modern, oversized pendant lights, ideal for those open and airy lofts. He's also recently released the House Collection, a line of smaller lamps. All of his lamps are copy/mod, which I think is awesome since I'm a big fan of multiples.

From the Loft Collection, here are the Alia and the Emilia lamps. I included the picture where I'm standing next to the lamps just to show the scale -- these are large lamps!

alia_emiliasnapshot_001

From the House Collection, we have The Edd and The PT -- the ad shots show them in Matte Black, and my pic-for-scale shows them in Steel. I love The Edd -- it's like something out of the Jetsons. :)

ed-ptsnapshot_0021

(Please excuse the wardrobe in that last pic -- it was taken after my club events, and it was late, and I was too tired to change.)

I did pop in to Balt's little shop, just for a minute, and saw a few more worth-checking-out lamps, so get over there and see for yourself. You can visit Lofty Lighting here or on OnRez here. Enjoy!

*I know I've been a bad blogger lately -- I'm rebuilding my sim and that's taking all my time. I do have another special series planned, and hopefully another design contest in the near future! Thanks for sticking with me!

Interior decorators! Design enthusiasts! Folks who just love to put pretty things together in a room! Second Spaces is delighted to announce our first ever Shadowbox Design Contest!!

Exotic Getaway Shadowbox Design Contest

ex·ot·ic adj. Intriguingly unusual or different; excitingly strange

Here's how it works: each contestant gets a Second Spaces shadowbox to decorate. "Exotic Getaway" can mean a lot of things -- especially in Second Life! We have an expert panel of designer judges who will select our winners - we'll be looking for creativity, clever aesthetics, smart use of prims, and an overall sense of design. Make your shadowbox a place where the judges will want to vacation! ;) The contest will run for approximately 2 weeks, during which the contestants can organize their shadowboxes. We'll wrap it up with an event on August 9th when the boxes are ready for viewing -- we'll have a live DJ and festivities, the judges will make their selections and we'll announce the winners at the end of the event! It'll be a party, so everyone is invited!

Here's what you need to know: - There are only 10 shadowboxes available. *UPDATE: August 6 -- one box has become available again! If you think you can pull it off by Saturday, then get over there and grab it!** To enter the contest, jump over to the Second Spaces contest grounds, select an available shadowbox and claim it as yours. To claim it, you need to do three things:

  1. You'll see a rent box in front of the shadowbox; right click and pay $1L to rent the space.
  2. Right-click and Buy the shadowbox for $0L. Do NOT Take the shadowbox into your inventory; when you buy it, you're buying the original, so leave it sitting right where it is. Buying it will allow you to retexture the inside of the box as needed.
  3. Send an IM to Elle Kirshner to let her know you've entered the contest!

- Only 200 prims are allowed in your design! That includes furniture, accessories, plants -- whatever you use. 200 prims is all you get! - No more than $1000L can be spent on your design! That's right -- it's exotic on a budget. :) On the day of the contest event, you'll be asked to provide a notecard detailing all objects purchased and their Linden value. - Your design elements can be purchased OR built by you! Now's your chance to show off your building skills! - Only the INSIDE of the shadowbox can be re-textured. The outside must remain textured with the Second Spaces background. - You may place items just outside the shadowbox on the platform, if needed.

That's it!! Prize categories and prize packages will be announced soon. Here's what I can tell you now: the prizes are provided by some of the best furniture/decor designers in all of Second Life!

Contest Sponsors: The Loft // Heart Garden Centre Melino Style // Ramos Designs Del Sol Furniture // Avenue Four

Don't miss your chance -- get over to the Second Spaces contest grounds and claim your shadowbox, then get to it! Keep your eye on the blog for more info on the prizes and the progress of the contest! Good luck!!

Here's sort of a quick link guide to the Top 12 places. I hope it's been useful -- I really, truly appreciate the great comments received here and in-world, and it's been absolutely delightful to speak with several of the designers that were spotlighted in the list. I'm going to add a link over to the right of the page so that this post can be easily accessed going forward, and I really do hope it can be considered a toolkit of sorts for folks who are ready to claim their own second space!

Hope you'll check back often!

Welcome to Part 11 of my Top 12! Need some background on what this list is all about? Click here for the original post.

Hello again! Today we're going to continue with accessories - specifically, lighting. I'm one to keep my world on Midday 99% of the time, but I still like to have appropriate lamps and lighting just to make a space feel like it should. You can find lighting everywhere, and a lot of the furniture shops you'll find have lamps to coordinate with their furniture sets, which is always great. For general lighting - meaning lamps that could work anywhere and aren't specific to a furniture set - my favorite place is Avenue Four by Luna Benavente. She makes the cutest light bulbs -- zoom in close!

It's a nice shop, well laid-out, and Avenue Four has cute furniture, too. For this post, I'm focusing on the lights. Oohh...the lights. My favorites are the Twinkle Stick lights. I bought these over a year ago when I set up my house, and I've also used them in the club. Most of Avenue Four's lights come in really large packs including slightly different variations, lengths, etc. The Twinkle Stick lights are wonderful for grouping, as in the pic below, and great for individual placement to highlight certain spots, like columns or entrances, or even to frame a window.

On this visit to Avenue Four, I noticed the One Night In Bangkok set which includes this lovely and nicely textured lamp. I'm a sucker for anything that looks lacquered.

The Retro Chic lamps come in several colors to match the corresponding living room sets, and really, they're a style that would work anywhere: great for a dining area -- group a few together for an entrance, giving a chandelier-like effect -- buy a few and send them to me -- really, the possibilities are endless. :)

The last picture I'll share is the Brady Chrome Light. This is the sort of light I love in RL - it's industrial, but not too much. It would fit in a traditional house as easily as in a warehouse loft - and really works in any room. I especially like this look in a kitchen, that's just a preference -- it really does work anywhere.

Ok, there's the tease. :) We all need lighting - YOU need lighting -- so get over to Avenue Four and check it out. The lighting is, of course, displayed throughout the store, and there is a Lighting corner on the 2nd level where you can pick up the big packs o' light. Luna also has some really cute string lights that are just adorable for outdoor spaces, too, and you'll see those displayed, as well. [Insert some light-related cliche' here, perhaps relating to the end of a tunnel?] Enjoy!
